Road closed just behind us. We are last cars on road. Road closed ahead of us too. Standstill for 3 hours. Some massive plows just showed up and made the cars part like the red sea. Maybe an inch of clearance in either side For the plows. An ambulance with chains on just drove by us. This is bad.

Drive safe... Remember getting there alive is more important than getting there fast! And have fun skiing/boarding if that's what you're heading to Vail for... (kinda jealous)

Avalanche? I went over monarch pass once in a channel that a plow dug through an avalanche, we had about 3 inches of clearance on each mirror. It was a good 12' deep. Very scary knowing the plow had taken out some support for anything still left on the hill.

Stay safe & goodluck. had a white knuckle moment coming back from Breckenridge in my Audi CQ with mere all weathers when the plows weren't out by the time I got back on I70.

The scary part was that everyone, mostly SUV's, were forging a path through a foot of building snow just packing it down, still insisting they try to go about 50mph, constantly making little corrections, and forcing me to do the same...just so unsafe.

It may have been fun had I not been boxed in by a gang of fucking Escalades and Yukon Denali EXXXILV pimpmo'rentals.

Welcome to winter in the mountain states. Keep your gas tank full and you cold weather survival gear in the car.

Yeah I had to deal with a bunch of stuff like this on monday when I was headed just south of the border to Canada. First the roads started to get icy then there was the highway closure that I was able to snake around and get on further down before finally entering a sort of twilight zone. There was nothing around for miles and it was at the point where it looked like the snow plows just said screw it no one is coming this far north. After driving for about 6 hours in that crap I was absolutely spent. I was in a rented Chrysler Town and Country with a bad alignment and a traction control that said screw this I ain't working today. I was so glad the next day when I headed back, everything got cleared up and the roads were clear as can be. I was able to cut down that 6 hr trip to 4.5.
